I don't have time to do it more often, but I would love to. Here is the big event that triggered today's post:
Jude started nursery!!! I have been having anxiety about this for a little while and for some pretty good reasons, the number one being that Jude has never had a babysitter while he was awake, until last night. We've never had to and I hadn't really thought about it much. He goes to bed between 6:30 and 7:30, depending on naps, etc, so we have plenty of time after he's in bed to go do whatever we want(and Hyrum is more than happy to have a new friend come and play, hahah). So I was worried, especially because the first time we have a babysitter when he's awake it's the night before we leave him in nursery. I was sure he was going to have abandonment issues. I couldn't have been more wrong. Last night he was totally fine. He didn't cry when we left and he went right to sleep when they put him down. In nursery there were SO many kids and not enough teachers(one was sick) and at least 5 were crying HARD, so as soon as we walk in, my heart sinks. This isn't going to work. I might as well pack him up and leave now. At first he was a little stunned by the huge noise level, but then he saw the puzzles and was gone. I actually stayed and helped for a few minutes because there weren't enough arms for all of the poor crying babes(I secretly miss being in nursery, good thing I have a daycare now). After I calmed one little girl down enough to get her interested in the puzzles I snuck out and Jude wasn't phased at all. I came back to take him to the bathroom, sure he'd been hit(by another babe) or missed me or something, but nope. He saw me, smiled and kept on eating his cheese stick. huh. I took him to the bathroom, brought him back and he was right back into it. I came back later to pick him up and he was more interested in getting on this zebra to ride it. I was sooo happy. Hyrum was the same way, most of the time he would get upset when we came to get him because he didn't want to leave. I need to relax. Hahaha. I cried in primary(we teach the 11-12 year olds) because we were playing this game where one child would hide a little stuffed bear while another child waited in the hall. When the child in the hall came back in we would sing a primary song, quietly or loudly depending on how close they were, like hot or cold. I cried every time we played. Hahah. I can't stop laughing at how ridiculous that is. I was just so proud of them and just kept thinking about them learning how to follow the spirit...I was laughing/crying because I couldn't stop myself from crying. Hahaha. Yikes.
Anyway, Hyrum is a super star reader, getting the hang of it more and more every day. He loves to read. He is the sweetest boy, too. Both of the boys are. Hyrum kisses my hand when either of us are feeling sad or upset and he loves Jude so much. He's always laughing at silly things Jude does(like hiding under the bed or under a pillow). I just love them so much. We are such blessed and lucky parents to have two amazing boys. Which kills me because I HAVE to better. I have to be more patient, more soft spoken, more loving, more everything a good mom should be. I love Art and I'm grateful that we can help each other be better(and not so weird).
He has been doing that for over a year now, but today he said it ALL on his own. I got a little nervous because at first he started breathing really heavily into the microphone and then paused for a while. I was standing right beside him, ready to help, if needed, but then he just plunged in. I WISH I could remember everything he said, but it made me cry and cry. He said he knew that Jesus gave us our bodies and that Jesus suffered for our sins and that we could go to heaven. He said he knew that he could help other people be happy, especially when he gets bigger. I know that he said more than that and I have been racking my brain, but nursery for a couple of hours in high heels took all my brain power. After that he started talking about our car accident and going to the pet store, so I had to help him wrap it up(although he said he had lots more testimonies). He is such a special boy and so are ALL children. I am so grateful to have him and Jude and to have so many examples of what to do and what not to do around us. This last year has been hard and I worry about him ALL the time(what parent doesn't), but it's good to know that he gets it. I sure do love that kid. Also, this week, while being attacked by Dad he said "NO! For Freedom!!" I have no idea where he got that from. Funny boy.

Jude is climbing up on stuff all over the place, standing up, only holding on to something with one hand, like it's no big deal, while I have a heart attack. When did he get so old??? He says "Dad" all the time, he sure love his Daddy. Also the difference between sick happy and normal happy is astounding. He has been sick for so long I almost forgot that he was normally MORE happy! How is that possible?? He is always happy even when sick, but when he is well he squeals and laughs and screams with delight all the time. Church is noisy. He is especially scream happy when he is tired. It's hilarious and not a scream that grates my nerves, so we're good. Can not WAIT to see everyone in Maine/Canada/California in a few weeks. These boys are going to get to hang out with the coolest people ever.

Art is taking spring classes, working and hanging out with us too. He is amazing. He's our handy man and he is an amazing artist. I love the stuff he is doing right now(and always). He is taking a glass blowing class and I am so jealous. I love hearing about all the cool stuff they are learning. He has so many skillz! Summer is awesome and terrible at the same time. We love to feel like we can hang out till after 12 every night because the sun stays up forever, but then at 6 in the morning, when Hyrum comes running in, we get a big fat slap to the face with reality(and also a few cannonballs and dives from Hyrum onto our still sleepy bodies). It's hard to balance all we have going on. Anyone else have that problem???

I am going crazy. I am packing and unpacking, sewing and knitting, gardening and waiting to garden, being a mom and getting ready for our big trips this summer, etc, etc. We are so excited to get a big dose of family. Mama, Walt, Mum, Daddy, Nicky, Dad, Beth, and all of our awesome siblings. ALL of them. So stoked. I miss Maine and Canada and California and I am going to get my fix. I can't wait for Jude to meet everyone and for Hyrum to see everyone again. Hooray for people getting married. It's the best. Sorry for the random pictures in the middle I can't figure that out...which makes me feel old.Naomi, Art, Hyrum, Jude, and Esahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04533127214773860738noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4671604945395972591.post-42572204949790119182011-02-13T20:38:00.000-08:002011-02-13T20:38:11.602-08:00Art-
Working so hard. Art's taking a crap load of credits(which is equal to 14.5 this semester), working 20 hours a week and not getting any sleep. I don't know how he does it. He teaches seminary occasionally for his class, does a lot of art and tries to stay close to his family. I can't wait for school to be done.
Naomi-
packing! It feels like we have no time to pack and the day is coming up so quickly. We are moving to my sister Hannah's house as they have moved to Maine. We'll be moving in by the end of the month and we have a lot of stuff to move. Luckily I can take some stuff over periodically until the big day, so it won't be so much at once. I am so stoked. I am going to have a sewing/crafting room and Art will be able to have painting space. THANK YOU Hannah and Tom.
Trying to keep up with 2 boys is no small task, but it is SO fun. These boys are so funny and silly and wonderful. It's so great to hang out with them every day. AND they love each other so much. Hyrum gives Jude kisses all the time. He still doesn't quite get why he poops and pees randomly(on me, or in his diaper), but he loves him just the same. Jude squeals every time Hyrum comes close and there is lots of snuggling and smiles when you get them next to each other....Maybe I should start a new paragraph talking about them...
Hyrum-
Learning more and more everyday. He is reading small words and picking things up so quickly. He loves to learn and read and play. Every time we go out or come in he walks through the little bit of snow we have left on our lawn. If I'm slow enough he even grabs his shovel, scoops some up and throws it over his head. There are lots of little foot prints in that little area.
He is my big helper. He loves to help with the dishes and the laundry and cleaning up and anything else I'll let him do. He is just so sweet. He says I love you and gives us all kisses and hugs ALL the time. We love it.
Jude-
Hyrum calls him Juder or Pooter. He is just like Hyrum, all smiles and full of snuggle. He is getting around so fast now. He isn't crawling, but he rolls/wriggles/rocks/etc to where he wants to get. It's really kind of funny to watch him try to get somewhere that is just out of arms reach. He is so cute. He spits and grunts like he's going to poop all the time(with no poop necessary). I love it and think it's adorable. Sometimes his face even gets red...it's hilarious. He just laughs and grunts/spits/etc some more. He is eating baby food now, but so far is a very picky eater. I've tried carrots, peas, green beans, rice cereal, oatmeal, whole wheat cereal, squash, baby food beef(he gagged until he threw up with this one), applesauce, bananas, sweet potatoes, pears and mixed cereal. What did he like? Sweat potatoes, pears and once(out of 8 or 9 tries) he acted like he liked mixed cereal. Oh, well, I'll just keep feeding him random colored purees until he likes something new(or old). Eating time is hilarious, too. Sometimes he spits just as I get the spoon to his mouth, so whatever it is goes all over both of us and the high chair and anything else nearby. Or as he is learning to eat solids he will almost gleek the food out. He also, of course, makes hilarious faces when he doesn't like something or if something is a new texture, or something. We laugh a lot. Also bath time for both of the boys is so much fun, they never want to get out.

Well, that's pretty much it for now. We are so sad to be leaving friends, but excited to be moving to a new place with lots of room. Maybe I'll post pictures? Happy New Year!!! Everyone here is healthy and doing well. Amazing. We have some colds and I am recovering from surgeries, but all in all things are going great! I am feeling better than I ever thought I would and my awesome relief society has 2 separate people coming over every day for two weeks to help. We were able to spend Christmas with family and I even was awake at midnight to celebrate New Years. Hoorah! Art got into the next semester for the ces program(there are cuts each semester) and he got into the BFA program. We are so proud of him. Hyrum starts primary as a sunbeam and Jude is rolling over both ways and he is getting more and more personality every day. Hyrum and Jude continue to love each other so much. It's awesome. I love my family and am so grateful for them and for my savior. Merry Christmas(a few days late)!!!
It has been a crazy week.

Just before Thanksgiving I noticed a hard lump about an inch in diameter on my neck and got really freaked out. Especially because the next day any office would be open was the following Monday. Luckily we had a really nice Thanksgiving with some friends and just tried to not think about it until we could do something about it.
Monday came and I went in to see my midwife. She thought it had something to do with my thyroid, but wasn't sure, so she had me schedule an ultrasound to make sure. On the way home from my appointment I was stopped at a red light when an old man in a ginormous van rear-ended us. It was so scary, especially with the boys in the car. Both of them were screaming right away, probably not helped by my hysterics. Hyrum kept saying his head hurt and Jude was ready for his nap anyway, so something a lot smaller would have made him upset anyway. We are all ok. We had a paramedic look at the boys on the scene, but he suggested we just go to the Dr.s, so we did. Art was able to come to where we were and drive us over to the pediatrician, which I was so grateful for. I was a mess. The pediatrician said both of the boys looked fine, but to keep an eye on them anyway. Our car looked alright on the outside, but when the guy came to do an estimate he said that there was a lot of internal damage, so hopefully we can get all of that taken care of soon. My neck and knee have been bothering me, but other than that, we all seem ok and I am grateful we have insurance and that the other guy was ok, too.
Tuesday I went in for an ultrasound, but that was inconclusive. By the way, it is really unnerving when you have an abnormal lump and no one will tell you the possibilities. All I could think about was cancer. Anyway, they wanted to do a cat scan with contrast to see things a little bit better, which was done on Wednesday. On Thursday I went in to check my neck and knee(the guy I saw was a dope...he told me to go to the E.R. because they see a lot of car accidents and they would know what to do...) and on Friday I went in to see the Ear Nose and Throat guy. He was great and let me know that I had a Thyro something duct cyst and that it would need to be removed surgically. At least it's not cancer. I can live with surgery.
So now we are trying to coordinate having this surgery and having my hernia repaired...I only want to recover once, if only for the boys' sake. The timing is terrible and awesome all at once. The holidays will be a little limited, but Art will be home from school(and he can work from home!).
We had our new baby boy Jude. We had our 4 year anniversary. Hyrum turned 3 years old. I stopped working. Art got a new job as a TA. Art got another new job as a designer at BYU designing magazines and such for the religion department. I made Hyrum a dino costume. Now I am going to go eat some of his candy as payment.Naomi, Art, Hyrum, Jude, and Esahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04533127214773860738noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4671604945395972591.post-5055938690598067172010-06-27T20:41:00.000-07:002010-06-27T20:41:34.596-07:00

So this past week has been interesting and I thought it was pretty appropriate to have blogged when I did last time. Little did I know I would be going into pre-term labor 3 times soon after that. SCARY. BUT we are ok. Jude is ok. I am ok. 37 weeks is on Thursday and I think we'll make it till then. Until then I have had a lot of free time on my hands as I haven't been able to work or have kids over.
Hyrum and I get up, eat breakfast, play a few card games(canine capers! among others), go water the garden and play in the mud, come in, clean up, eat lunch and then he takes a nap while I craft it up and try not to get too stressed about cleaning. That has pretty much become our routine. Art comes home and then we all just kinda hang out till dinner. It's not bad...but I am missing running and just being more active with Hyrum. Oh, well. It could be worse. I could actually be on official bed rest(my sister is right now, with 5 kids and the sixth on the way!).
I am enjoying this extra time where all I really can do is focus on Hyrum, it's a blessing that things happened this way I think. We are now prepared(we better be after 3 scares) for Jude's arrival and are excited. Hyrum talks about him all the time.
Also, I am doing the hypnobabies program and was bummed that I couldn't get into an actual class, but have been doing the course at home. BLESSING. If I had taken the class I wouldn't have been done yet and I would have been freaking out a whole lot more. You never know what will actually be a blessing in your life. Also, if Jude is born early it will be a good thing that we didn't get pregnant right away after getting insurance because we have supplemental, which requires 10 months of membership before they cover anything. Heavenly Father is awesome and will ALWAYS take care of us. So much for doing the freedom festivals 5k. Oh, well. Maybe Jude will be here by then and we'll be at home in our own little bliss anyway.
I have been enjoying crafting. I haven't been able to complete my long list of to dos before Jude is born because a lot of them require a lot of action from me, but crafts are one goal I was putting aside to get the other stuff done. I have since completed a bag for Crystal(bag #3 since making my list). The picture is up above. We made some flowers at a RS night activity, which I have been trying to do anyway on my own, so that gave me the final push to complete her bag as shown. I am pleased with how it turned out and also just to have it done. I was hoping to make one for all my sisters, my mom and my mother in law, but that is a big task. So far I have made one for Julia, Charity, Trina, Crystal and Hannah. Not too shabby, but I still have a long way to go.
I love my family and it has been nice to have to stay put(not be so busy doing stuff) and just hang out. We are so happy and I am so grateful to have such a loving and considerate husband and son.Naomi, Art, Hyrum, Jude, and Esahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04533127214773860738noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4671604945395972591.post-74750913606448264922010-06-17T14:06:00.000-07:002010-06-17T14:06:18.427-07:00

So, its been a long time, but I thought I would update things a little bit before that gets to be a little more trouble. I am super prego, but still feeling pretty good. I owe it all to a girl in my ward who ran 6 miles everyday until a couple weeks before she gave birth...where she ran 3 miles every day. That is when I resolved to run while pregnant. Not an easy task at first, starting with one mile which took me about 20 minutes...no joke. Then it got easier and I eventually got up to around 4 a day...which took me a long time, but felt really good. Now I am back to around 1-2 miles and then I am spent. It has made such a difference in my pregnancy, I can't even tell you. My body doesn't feel so pregnant, if that makes sense. Anyway, I am feeling good and we were even lucky enough to visit Art's dad and my brother in California(my favorite place). Hyrum had lots of fun with his cousin, uncle and aunt, and grampy. Art is doing well and getting a lot of new artwork prepared for his upcoming show at the end of the summer. Obviously he is trying to get as much done as possible before Jude is born, so he is pretty busy. He is also training for the red rock run(I think that's what it's called) and is excited to run it with some of my family. I am still unsure if I can commit as its in September and who knows what kind of shape I will be in then. We are trying to finish up some projects around the house before Jude is born, like painting and sanding a dresser, organizing the filing cabinet, blah, blah, blah and it gets harder and harder to do as it seems like now I am watching more kids for longer periods of time. I love watching them, but I do get a bit stressed out about all the stuff I want to get done. Hyrum is doing really well. I get worried that I'm not teaching him enough...he's just so smart and now I feel like it's such a big leap from abc's to reading that I'm not sure what to teach him. He loves to learn and I love to watch that. He is an amazing boy. He's excited for Jude's arrival. I set up our changing table in our room and Hyrum said "When Jude is born you can change his diaper!" It's little things like this that make me think he knows exactly what's going on. He is so cute and observant and loving. He really is still so snuggly and I am so grateful for that. He is now going to the bathroom without any help! Well, I do hand him some toilet paper because I don't want him to drip on the floor, but other than that from dropping his pants to washing his hands he does it all. He is awesome. Well, those projects are calling and Hyrum should wake up from his nap soon. This will have to do.Naomi, Art, Hyrum, Jude, and Esahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04533127214773860738noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4671604945395972591.post-15489034530493041622009-10-18T13:50:00.000-07:002009-10-18T13:50:49.701-07:00It seems like apples have swallowed up my free time. It takes so long to peel, core and cut up apples...I started with 2 boxes a month ago, got down to 1/2 box, then added 3 more boxes over a week ago and I still have 3 boxes left. I have seriously spent all my free time cutting up apples. It will all be worth it, I hope. Canning applesauce, drying apples, apple butter, apple pie, apple muffins, etc.Naomi, Art, Hyrum, Jude, and Esahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04533127214773860738noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4671604945395972591.post-19435571290906531762009-10-11T18:42:00.000-07:002009-10-11T19:39:30.321-07:00
So I recently have been inspired by other's blogging efforts and decided to update our blog. It's been a while, so I thought I would let everyone know what we are up to.

ART-
Art's in school at BYU and we were getting ready for his junior year when he changed majors(from French to Graphic Design). Depending on whether he does a BFA or a BA he will either be in school for 3 or 4 more years. Fun. But worth it. Eventually he wants to teach in the church education system, but that is a super competitive program, so we'll see how it goes when we get there. He is really enjoying this semester at BYU and he is just so good. I don't have any pictures of this semesters work, yet, but here are a few pictures of work in his portfolio:
Impressed? I certainly am. I consider myself to have some artistic abilities, but next to him I look like I make a mockery of the arts. Anyway. Art still loves to play guitar and be with us and he does a good job fitting everything in. He gets up every morning at 3:30 to go to work, so I am very lucky to have such a dedicated husband. We are forever trying to get his paperwork for a greencard in, but it's confusing and we don't want to/can't pay for a lawyer. Some day.

Naomi-

I just applied to BYU and was denied. Good grades, but no dice. I was really sad about that, especially because I told so many people I was hoping to go because I was so excited. Now I hope no one asks. I am in at UVU and depending on how much out of pocket we will need to pay I may be going back this winter. We'll see. They do have an ASL major, where BYU doesn't, so maybe that's why I didn't get accepted. They also have a dental hygiene program, which I could go through when the timing is right.

I started a day care this past September and had a few kids and things were going great for a while, but one of the families found someone closer to where they work/live/go to school and so now I only have two kids each for only a few hours a week. I would love to have kids all day everyday and so would our budget, but the networking isn't really there, I don't think. Most of our friends don't have any kids, so it's hard to get the word out. It's so much fun with the kids I do have, though. They both are so fun and Hyrum yells excitedly when he hears them coming to the door. It makes me happy. I love my sweet little boy and I love these kids too.

I am a free finder. I like free things that are to my advantage. Like this week I found someone who wanted their apple tree cut down, so I wrote to them asking if I could come pick the apples first, so now we have 3 full boxes of apples(we gave one of the original 4 to my sister Charity)! I have already canned some applesauce, made apple pies, dehydrated apples, made apple fruit leather and am planning to do all of those things again and more. It's great to be a little more self reliant for free. I am a fan.

I would love to have a full blown etsy shop. I want to knit scarves, hats, mittens, gloves, etc, make jewelry, make stuffed animals, bags, quilts, clothes, etc, etc. I want to, but I want to spend time with Hyrum more. I have been making our home homier by painting and such and I feel much better about that. The mending is half way done, and I am almost at the point where I could do some of those really fun projects. I really want to.

Hyrum-

He is so incredibly smart. I can hardly believe the things he does and says. He is hilarious and so intelligent. Today at church I was just amazed at his puzzle doing abilities...he has this pooh book with magnets and they have a spot for them when they aren't being used..there is no indication where the pieces go, they aren't cut out in the exact shapes and they kind of blend together. An adult would have a hard time figuring it out. Hyrum, without hesitation, just started putting them back in the correct spots. I was amazed. He sings "clean up, clean up, everybody everywhere, clean up, clean up, everybody do your share!" when he puts things away(even without being asked!). He has memorized so many songs, like baa baa black sheep, twinkle twinkle little star, I am a child of God, book of mormon stories, popcorn popping, john jacob jingle heimer shmidt, are you sleeping?, three blind mice, etc, etc, etc. He loves to sing and it's so cute when he does...I think I will try to get him to sing on video(the only problem being that he always wants to see a picture of a horse when he sees the camera...).
He knows his colors and most of his shapes, he memorizes books, he helps clean up, he knows sooo many animals, he knows soooo many asl signs. He is amazing and I could go on and on, but I will just leave it with one story:

The other night Art and I had put Hyrum to bed and 20 minutes later we hear him yelling something over and over again. We couldn't figure it out. Art thought he was saying eat water, I thought he was saying eat burger. After discussing this Hyrum yells MOMMY!!!! EWE BOOGER!!!!! I open up the door and there he is with a booger on his finger. I love him. He is so stinkin cute. I spank him all the time to let him know just that.

Long entry, but there is a small update!!Naomi, Art, Hyrum, Jude, and Esahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04533127214773860738noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4671604945395972591.post-280702429636151072009-03-23T19:42:00.000-07:002009-03-23T19:53:27.986-07:00slow posts
So what's new?

Well, I am only working Saturdays at a dental office and Art is working hard at school and work. I have an interview with a woman for a nanny position on Thursday. Hyrum is continuing to blow our minds with his sweetness, cuteness, smartness, and weirdness. We love him. Here is another clip of him signing "help", "please" and "thank you". Enjoy!Naomi, Art, Hyrum, Jude, and Esahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04533127214773860738noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4671604945395972591.post-38915953040136900232009-03-01T15:07:00.000-08:002009-03-01T15:30:09.587-08:00
We have been meaning to blog. We have. Now Facebook messed up our video once again. We were pushed over the edge. No one can get exactly how cute our son is without sound. Anyway, we have news and we will be updating you soon. Nothing too big, it's just been forever. We hope you enjoy our overwhelmingly handsome son.Naomi, Art, Hyrum, Jude, and Esahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04533127214773860738noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4671604945395972591.post-24281658179579268512008-04-26T12:00:00.001-07:002008-04-26T12:02:46.329-07:00Our Little FamTrue love is where it began.Naomi, Art, Hyrum, Jude, and Esahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04533127214773860738noreply@blogger.com2
